Film Making is a complex process. It involves many departments & many stages until it is finally completed. The best Filmmakers may or may not have a method but it cannot be learnt from a textbook. What is needed is the talent for story telling and most people already tell stories. But is that enough? No one is ever born a ‘Filmmaker'. A film requires to be told in a certain way to a certain audience for a specific reason, be it entertainment or a thought or message. How the film is constructed is a delicate process subject to certain steps like script writing, story boarding, cinematography, direction, sound, acting etc. Of course every film made is a learning process but what a film school can offer is a multitude of information & intensive learning in a very short period. Earlier it took people years of struggle to pierce through to the medium, both in the corporeal sense of access and cerebral sense of understanding, finally becoming filmmakers at the zenith of their lives, whereas today there are ordinary people competent enough at a young age to make films, precisely because of abundant film education.
Although films are commercially produced for popular entertainment, it cannot be denied that it is an important Art form and it is an age-old debate as to whether ‘Art' can be taught though craft certainly can. Although no one can be taught how to be the next Spielberg, they can be taught the grammar of Film like framing, continuity editing, high and low-key lighting etc. A Film school can certainly provide the technical knowledge .
If you attempt filmmaking on your own, you may or may not meet a great Filmmaker who inspires you & takes you in as his protégé, but if you admit yourself into Digital Academy- The Film School, our professors can guide and inspire you by inculcating patterns of thinking that can lead you towards an enhanced perspective and focused ideas. The professors, being theoretically proficient and experienced industry professionals, can impart sophisticated feedback on individual projects and ideas, and help mould one into a better filmmaker. Outside the sanctuary of a film school, it is difficult to get together a group of film-aware individuals, and have them critique projects. Besides, in the future, classmates can become the most valuable resources, possibly even collaborators for one's own projects. The student teacher ratio being approximately 1:12 remarkably provides room for interaction with instructors on a personal level at a regular basis. At Digital Academy- The Film School, the art and craft of filmmaking is taught through a balance of classroom instruction, practical sessions and workshops. The faculty is handpicked from the entertainment industry's renowned professionals. Among the chosen lot are Award winning professionals like renowned Sound Engineer Daman Sood (IIFA award for Best Sound Recording for Veer Zaara), Editor & Director Sankalp Meshram (National Award Winner), and Scriptwriter & Filmmaker Mr. Sidharth Sinha (National Award for his Short Film ‘Udedhbun')
Our core strength remains in the fact that many of our contemporaries do not offer short, intensive and hands-on courses. Those who do, do not have such well-equipped facilities teamed under one roof. The thought that goes into designing each of our courses sets us far ahead of the others.
Our film school makes it possible for you to make your own films and projects in a realistic professional work environment. We use cutting edge technology like Professional Sony D55, DV, HDV, Sony DSR 450, Beta, Red, 16 mm and 35 mm Arriflex cameras, Beta Recorders, FCP and Avid along with Combustion, 3D Max, Character Studio, and Maya Unlimited. The interactive sessions allow the students to relate with the professionals at a personal level. The infectious enthusiasm of the Guests & the students, permit the sharing of knowledge and create an inspirational atmosphere. Guest Lectures on diverse topics by varied professionals from many fields create a healthy mood for the students of Cinema who can then paint a wholesome picture for themselves. One of the recent workshops conducted by Guinness Book of World Records holder Mr. B. P. Singh is a thorough example of this. At the workshop, the students were given a demonstration on how to use a ‘Steadicam', which is a substitute for a trolley and allows freer and faster motion. A Steadicam is a stabilizing mount for a motion picture camera, which mechanically isolates the operator's movement from the camera, allowing a very smooth shot even when the operator is moving quickly over an uneven surface. In this way, the Steadicam allows unimpeded motion of the camera on the set. Informally, the word may also be used to refer to the combination of the mount and camera. Each student was given the opportunity to try this instrument under Mr. B. P. Singh's supervision.
